What makes a happy ending?

This half term, we are going to be exploring the darker side of fairy tales by exploring the question “What makes a happy ending?”

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working hard to transform our classrooms into mysterious and mythical woods! This has involved sketching well known characters from fairy tales, painting, DT work and paper mache. Our classrooms now display some very impressive art work, also a giant tree! How exciting!

In Literacy, we have been exploring the story of Hansel and Gretel. This has involved using drama and a story map to learn the story off by heart. We have also innovated the story to create some wonderful alternative versions. Did you know that Hansel and Gretel actually drop bolts and face an enormous king crab? These are just some of our creative and exciting ideas!

We have also had the opportunity to take part in a wonderful workshop where we performed Hansel and Gretel through movement and drama. We thoroughly enjoyed bringing the story to life and we can’t wait to explore a range of other fairy tales! Over the term, we are going to be working towards putting on a performance. This will include creating our own costumes, sets, and props. Additionally, we will be doing some enterprise work which will involve advertising the performance and selling tickets.
