Governing Body

Sam Lord

Chair of Governors

I have served on several school governing bodies for the past ten years and bring a wealth of knowledge to the dedicated team at Brinsworth Whitehill, particularly in SEND.

I am a Specialist Inclusion Teacher and support children and families with additional needs. I believe in a fully inclusive learning experience for all our children, and I am passionate about every child reaching their full potential. I take a keen interest in  ensuring we support not only our children academically but that we also grow them as individuals to provide them with life skills.

Pivotal to this is a strong curriculum offer, committed adults and a happy community, something that is very evident at Whitehill. By serving as a governor I want to continue to ensure that we grow our school.

Co-Opted Governor

Hi everyone, I am delighted to introduce myself as a new Governor at Wickersley Partnership Trust. With nearly two decades of experience leading global statistical programming teams in the biopharmaceutical sector, I aim to bring a strong analytical and strategic perspective to the board. More importantly, as a local parent to a young son and daughter, and an active supporter of Brinsworth Whitehill Primary School, I am deeply passionate about fostering an enriching and supportive environment for all students across our community. I look forward to serving the Trust and working with you all.

Vice-Chair (Co-Opted)

Hello, I am a parent of 2 children at Brinsworth Whitehill and have been a parent governor for the last 18 months.

I come from a working background of science and finance and spent many years working within the banking industry.

I took a step back when my children were born so jumped at the opportunity to be part of the board of governors.
I love the ethos, culture and inclusiveness of our school and enjoy being a part of the school as a whole going into the future.

Staff Governor

Being a parent governor at Brinsworth Whitehill Primary School is a role that intertwines several significant aspects of my life. As a mum of two children who are currently within the Whitehill community, my connection to the school is rooted in their daily experiences. This perspective as a parent provides an invaluable lens through which I approach my governor duties. I see firsthand the impact of the school’s decisions on my own children, fuelling my commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes for all pupils.

Adding another layer to my involvement is my professional background as a governance professional. This experience equips me with a unique understanding of the structures, regulations, and best practices that underpin effective school governance. I bring to the governing body not only a parent’s passion but also a professional’s insight into strategic planning, policy development, and ensuring accountability. My role as a parent governor, informed by my professional expertise, allows me to be a strong advocate for the children and a valuable asset to the governing body.

What does the Governing Body do?

The work of the Governing Body is carried out for one purpose only: to give the children the best possible start in their school life, by providing the finest in terms of the education they receive. The Governing Body is made up of the Headteacher, and members of the school community and wider Wickersley Partnership Trust where possible.

The Governors work closely with the Headteacher and meet regularly. Decisions are democratic, with all governors being given as much information as possible to aid them in that decision-making process, ensuring lively often lengthy and healthy discussions prior to decision making. Their work is focused around teaching and learning and in ensuring the school is offering the best possible values for its pupils. The position of school governor is a voluntary one, but it demands a high level of commitment, both in time and responsibility, as the decisions made directly affect the children.

The Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities, they can only act together, they cannot act as individuals.

Governors are appointed to help:

  1. Decide what is
  2. Set standards of
  3. Agree targets for continual school
  4. Interview and select
  5. Monitor and engage with teaching and learning

School Governors can be:

  1. Parents
  2. WPT members
  3. Community

Become a School Governor

INSPIRE. CHANGE. DEVELOP.

Wickersley Partnership Trust encompasses 13 schools across Rotherham and Gainsborough. It exists to further the interests of the young people it serves.

Becoming a School Governor can have a positive impact on the young people in your local community and help to drive school improvement. A Local Governing Body plays an integral role in a school’s success; working together with senior school leadership and guiding their strategic direction.

Why not give back and help give children and young people the best start in life, whilst developing your own skills in a way which can benefit your career. We like to think of it as a win-win situation!
