Last half term, our year 1 children explored famous portraits by the traditional, classical artists Thomas Gainsborough and George Freeman.Â
Using their sketchbooks to build up skills, the children looked at proportions of the face and its features and also explored charcoal for the first time. They learned how to create light and dark tones and shading skills.Â

The children were resilient and throughly enjoyed seeing their own self-portraits come together over a few weeks.Â
