Year 1 have truly embraced their inner artists this term! As part of their work in art and design, the children explored the vibrant culture and artistic traditions of Brazil – taking inspiration from its colourful patterns and bold shapes.
After studying examples of traditional Brazilian designs, the children carefully planned and sketched out their own unique tile patterns. Once happy with their ideas, they transferred their designs onto printing tiles, using etching tools to carve out the shapes with precision and care.
The next step was printmaking – and Y1 rose to the challenge brilliantly! Using a single bold colour, they created striking relief prints by repeating their tile patterns to form eye-catching compositions. The final results were nothing short of fantastic with each piece showing creativity, attention to detail, and an excellent understanding of the printmaking process.
Well done, Y1!
