Art in Y1/2

This half term, our Year 1/2 pupils have been studying the work of Linda Lang, a Canadian artist whose work explores themes around climate change and the natural world. The children were fascinated to learn how Lang uses colour and shape to convey the beauty and fragility of the Arctic landscape.

After exploring her work, the pupils got hands-on and created their own colour charts using tints and tones of blue powder paint. This allowed them to experiment with mixing colours and understand how different shades can create depth and mood in a painting.

They then practised drawing icebergs, paying careful attention to different types of lines – curvy, wavy, and straight – to capture the textures and shapes of the icy environment. Finally, the children used these skills to fill their own paper with stunning Arctic landscapes, applying their colour charts and line techniques to create unique and detailed scenes inspired by Lang’s work.

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged and inspired, well done Y1/2!
