Earlier this year, a group of children in UKS2 participated in a STEM competition organised by HSBC where they had to design a fun and active piece of playground equipment.
To do this they had to create a company/team image including a name and uniform, conduct research and collate their ideas, work closely as a group to refine their ideas considering their target market and then design their final idea with annotations and measurements. Once they had finished their design, they used maths to scale down the measurements and make a prototype out of lollipop sticks.
At the end of the process, the children were invited to the HSBC Headquarters where their team, designs and prototype were judged by experts from HSBC.
